The analyst firm Gartner claimed that the global anti-virus software revenues touched $4bn last year, which is more than 13.6 % sales from 2004. The firm says that the consumer market for anti-virus products is getting commoditized; a growth will encourage software changes that will influence upon enterprise software products.
Key among the growth in the consumer section is a step to offer all in one safety suites, which gives anti-spyware and firewall features and protection against Trojans and computer viruses.
The top three vendors that have made their marks in this regards are McAfee, Symantec and Trend Micro, accounting for 86 % of the ‘mature’ anti-virus products market in 2005, wherein Symantec trounched on the competition with a market share of 53.6 % with McAfee 18.8 % and Trend Micro 13.8 % standing at the other places in the podium.
