At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Vinton Gray Cerf, commonly referred as one of the “founding fathers of the Internet”, has warned of severe threat from botnets, which could pose as a dangerous threat to the cyber world causing irreparable loss.
Vint Cerf, who is now an employee of Google, further said that huge networks of compromised computers, utilized by online hackers to distribute spam and spyware and with the aim of denial of service invasions have been reported to be on the rise at a startling rate in terms of their potential, which might dent the prospect of the Internet - comparing their swell to a plague.
Botnets are getting smaller, more stealthy and more discreet and yet the volumes of spam are going up.
Vinton Gray Cerf envisaged that Q1 of all computers presently connected to the Internet - approximately 150 million - might be infested by Trojans, which intercepts a PC and its broadband connection, giving control of both away to afar sitting hackers who monitors the entire activities and commit theft of a user’s personal or confidential information.
