Today, the PC world is potentially stuffed with Cybercrimes, which is now dominated by the professional mafia who, instead of questing for publicity, are having a prying eye on PC users’ bank account and sensitive information.

In fact, the world of Internet crime has outdone drug trafficking as far as the revenue is concerned. The world Cyber crime is amongst the leading illegal revenue-earning industries today.

Country Manager (India - SAARC), Trend Micro, Niraj Kaushik says,

There are at least 30 virus outbreaks everyday in different parts of the world, as compared to the 2-3 major virus outbreaks that used to take place every month last year, viruses have become stealthier, do not spread unnecessarily, and are invisible. They are customized for a specified target. Now the cyber crooks have shifted from multipurpose, large attacks on network perimeters to smaller, increasingly fixed attacks on client-side targets.

As reported by A Symantec Internet Security Threat, in March 2006, almost 1,896 latest vulnerabilities had been traced in the second half of 2005, which has been the highest in number since 1998. For the first half of 2005, an average of 7.9 million phishing attempts daily were detected by Symantec, which is supposed to be documenting forty % extra vulnerabilities in 2005 instead in 2004. Spam also went over fifty % of all monitored email traffic.

Today the Cyber crimes are not based upon the single threats but on complex structures, as the PC world is fraught with complex threats where phishing, spyware and others likewise cyber crimes tune in different combinations and permutations, and phishing is the major threats.
