Fortinet claims to detect Akamai vulnerability

Fortinet’s Global Threat Research Team recently purported to have detected a remote buffer overflow flaw in Akamai Download Manager (CVE-2007-1891). The flaw is expected to enable hackers to bring about a denial of service or sprint arbitrary code on a bug-ridden machine. While a user is then persuaded to make a download of a file, which makes use of a pretentious version of the Akamai Download Manager, a nastily-crafted URL bringing about a buffer overflow landing to an arbitrary command implementation with the privileges of that user. This flaw is claimed to have been caused by inappropriate purification of remotely-supplied data. So, it is advised to all the Akamai Download Manager users that they should at once utilize the update offered by Akamai. The flaw specially has an effect on users of Akamai Download Manager ActiveX Control 2.2.0.8, though updates can also be availed for versions up to 2.2.1.0.
