Analyst firm Infonetics Research reported that large US organisations are losing an average of 2.2% of their annual revenue, or over $30m, to security attacks. Research published recently on network downtime, which is brought about by security attacks revealed that small and medium-sized organisations lose about half a % of annual revenue to security attacks, which could go up to the thousands of dollars.
Infonetics’ Costs of Network Security Attacks: North America 2007 report reveals that over half of downtime costs are because of service degradation for small, medium and large organisations. The report further divulged that much of this is hidden downtime as most of the time degradations remain unreported. The research further revealed that medium-sized organisations are greatly annoyed by client malware, whereas big organisations are greatly attacked by denial of service (DoS) attacks and server malware.
