Hijackthis is a utility that scans your computer for certain malware/spyware attacks and generates a log file. Hijackthis scans your registry completely and certain directories which are pron to attacks. This is one of the best utilities I found so far to remove spyware from PC’s, but one has to be extremely careful while removing these entries, as the hijacker might play some tricks and can name the entries very similiar to those of your Operating Systems.
Before removing any entry one has to make sure that this is the entry for a malicious program and than only should try to remove it. Before removing it the entry has to be backed up.
Beside the above there are other functionalities are available which are very helpful at times. Below is the list of the things one can do with Hijackthis.
1. Generate Startup List
2. Can check the list of the running processes.
3. Check the hosts file.
4. Can delete a file on reboot
5. Make a list of the itemes to be ignored while scanning PC
6. Can see the list of the Backup files and registry entries.
