Latest attack could target embedded devices

Well it seems quite interesting to know that now the hackers are being attacked with the same technique, which is used by them to create havoc in online arena and bring about menace for the PC users. Now a Juniper Networks-based security researcher claims to have turned up with a novel class of attack that can be utilized to exploit electronic devices such as routers or cell phones. The flaw is positioned in the Arm and XScale microprocessors, two chips that are extensively utilized in these "embedded" devices. Jupiter’s Barnaby Jack was quoted as saying: There are interesting quirks in the ARM and XScale architectures that make things very easy for an attacker. The technique he has developed is 100 percent reliable, and it results in code execution on the device. A hacker is expected to start on this kind of attack to sprint illegal software on a device linked to the network. Theoretically, hackers may possibly make use of this type of attack to commit theft of sensitive info from cell phones or pass Internet traffic on routers, say from a user’s online bank account to an attacker site set up to pilfer account and password info. This is claimed to be a substitute of online crooks methods such as buffer runoff attacks, which is aimed at swindling the processor into sprinting code snuck into the PC’s memory.
