Helsinki-based F-Secure, a security vendor, claimed to have detected the first signs of an adware/spyware program, which is capable enough of introducing browser windows on Apple Computer’s Mac OS X. F-Secure’s Anti-virus researchers have warned that the proof-of-concept program might be surreptitiously deployed on a Mac’s User account and got into to each application utilized by that account.
The F-Secure said,
It’s a feature, not a bug, but let’s just say that installing a System Library shouldn’t be allowed without prompting the user.” ‘The firm also said that the adware program is not in need of administrator rights.
F-Secure revealed that the sample, known as iAdware, lucratively released the Mac’s integrated Safari Web browser at whatever time applications were being utilized. The exact technique used here has not been disclosed, but according to the company, the program was intercepting an interface in Mac OS X.
