McAfee, Inc., the global leader in intrusion prevention and risk management and utilizing McAfee(R) SiteAdvisor(TM) has given ‘yellow’ or cautionary rating to 75 diet-related Web sites that take on deceptive billing practices, misleading advertising, or both, and depending upon the ubiquity of the Internet.



As many as one-third of search engine results for keywords such as ‘hoodia pills’, which leads to misleading sites, have been identified by McAfee SiteAdvisor. The researchers of the firm concerned discovered that most of the diet sites are engaged in misleading ‘bait-and-switch’ billing practices, where the users are claimed a free sample later on it is found out that they have automatically been subscribed to costly monthly service.



Besides billing practices, McAfee’s ratings of these sites also allows for the criteria built by the Federal Trade Commission.
