PandaLabs recently claimed to have spotted the emergence of VideoCach, a new variety of malicious adware, which has specifically been brought about to deceptively encourage certain security suites. The malicious adware is included with the novelty of making use of rootkit techniques.

VideoCach brings about shortcuts on the desktop and shows bogus virus alerts. The malicious bug is also claimed to open (IE) Internet Explorer windows fallaciously informing users that there is malware deployed on the PC. This malicious adware is also integrated with links to web pages whereby vulnerable security suites can be downloaded or acquired.

While sprinted, these components start scanning PCs though the results are at best doubtful, which generally spot innocuous cookies as malware, or give the report of insignificant errors, like Windows registry entries regarding a falsified file. Whatever be the result, the suite shows messages cautioning users against a security threat and asking for money so as to get rid of the threats spotted.
