PC Tools has warned online bank customers to beware of a malicious anti-spam program, which is aimed at committing theft of personal data and sends the captured information to online hackers. Though the warning has been issued worldwide, but significantly it alerts Sweden banks where attacks have been targeted potentially, bringing about utmost loss of $1.5 million.
The pernicious anti-spam program dupes the customers into downloading the rakin.zip or raking.exe files that were infested by the haxdor.ki Trojan.
The malicious anti-spam program is claimed to have stolen the identities of over 250 customers and $1.5 million from Sweden’s biggest bank within the last three months.
Statistics for the initial six months of 2005 depicted a 55% increase in losses via online banking fraud to $44 million rather than $29 million in the earlier year in the UK.
