PandaLabs recently came up with its report that reveals that the number of malware findings in 2006 went more than 172% compared to 2005. Massive infectivities brought about by a single virus seem to have almost vanished. In its place, multiple variants now silently put an infection to PCs.

Hybrid malware was an escalating tendency in 2006 and this tendency is expected to go on into 2007. One such instance is the blend between worms or Trojans and rootkits. On account of this, in the future it will be harder to make out between different malware families.

The report also explored how malware advanced in 2006. Trojans have now turned out to be the most popular type of malware, which is mostly because they creeps in silently and are so perfect for targeted attacks.
