Warning computer users, Sophos says buying slimming pills, which are marketed online, could jeopardize their lives. The warning sprang up last week while the United Nations International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) confirmed that a rising number of women are making purchase of appetite-suppressing drugs via the Internet with the aim of losing their weight. As maintained by a Sophos representative that about 60% of all Spam distributed all through the Internet is at the most related to medication and pills. The sale of dietary supplements having Ephedra is considered against the law in United States, however this does not prevent spammers from encouraging it in terms of a weight-loss aid.
Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos said,
There are two big dangers in buying slimming pills over the Internet. Firstly, you are buying drugs without medical advice, which may be inappropriate for your physical condition and could do you more harm than good. Secondly, you have no guarantee that what you are actually buying is the real medication. It could be that the spammers are increasing their margins by selling you bogus medications that you may have an unpleasant reaction to. Spammers don’t care about people’s health, they only care about their profits. If you have a medical problem consult a doctor, not an Internet crook.
Considering all this, Sophos has come up with the suggestion and warning to companies that they should give protection to themselves with a consolidated solution, which is capable of protecting against the threats of Spam, spyware and viruses.
