Sophos, the worldwide leader in threat management solutions, has published its Security Threat Report 2007, studying the threat landscape throughout the last twelve months, and envisaging malware and spam growth for 2007. According to the report, the U.S. hosts over one third of the websites having pernicious code detected through 2006, and spreads more spam than any other country.
Noteworthy detections from Sophos’s Security Threat Report are as follows: - 90 per cent of all spam is now disseminated via zombie PCs. U.S. keeps top slot for spreading most of spam approximately 22 per cent. Sophos also claimed to have spotted latest 41,536, types of malware in 2006, out of which total protected against 207,684, The research firm also says that Trojans has now outnumbered Windows viruses and worms by 4:1.
The proportion of infested emails came down from 1 in 44 in 2005 vs. 1 in 337 in 2006, two countries accountable for the most of web-based malware. U.S. & China depicting almost two-thirds of such threats, the top ten nations hosting web-based malware throughout 2006 were: 1. United States 34.2% 2. China 31.0% 3. Russian Federation 9.5% 4.
