Sophos has warned PC users of the threats of buying pills from online sites after the demise of a 57-year-old Canadian woman. Sophos’s Security Threat Report 2007 came up with the revelation that approximately 60 % of all spam distributed across the Internet is connected to drugs and medication.
Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos said,
This is a tragic reminder that you should always consult a doctor and never purchase pills online or reply to emails that offer miracle cures at knocked-down prices. Self-prescription can not only result in you buying medication that you don’t need, but more worryingly there’s no guarantee that the pills won’t be just a cheap concoction of whatever minerals the sellers can get their hands on, designed for the sole purpose of earning them money. It’s madness to buy drugs from an unknown source - who knows what’s in it?
Sophos experts caution that bogus online sites are rising in number. They are brought about by the hackers who frequently distribute spam emails guiding naive users to the site. They after that function for only one or two days ahead of they are shut down to steer clear of discovery by the authorities. Thus spammers are capable of peddling their drugs but for being trapped, just to create one more site under a different name some days later.
