Trend Micro recently announced to have purchased the anti-spyware freeware tool HijackThis from its Netherlands-based creator, Merijn Bellekom, for an unrevealed price. The free of charge HijackThis tool is utilized to bring about a log file of text and registry settings to identify spyware on an infested desktop and allow tech-savvy users to decide to do away with it.

Trend Micro CTO Ed English claims the security company is aimed at maintaining HijackThis as freeware for public use, although it is integrating an AnalyzeThis button, which is expected to allow users to submit files to Trend Micro for analysis. HijackThis beta version 2.0 can be availed at the TrendSecure.com security portal, where Trend Micro also is about to launch a free service, known as TrendProtect, which is integrated with Web site reputation monitoring and URL filtering for consumers.

Trend Micro’s vice president of consumer marketing maintains that the encouraging part in purchasing HijackThis, which has been downloaded over A 10 million times, is to put on more and more info regarding the widely-spread of spyware infestations on the desktop.
