In the middle of September, Gartner, research firm, estimated that in the coming two years up to 50% of firms will be in the grip of spyware. Spyware is a general word that envelops an extensive assortment of software products, most importantly those, which are a pest by bringing about a large number of pop-up ads, to those that are a significant security threat by committing theft of sensitive and additional financial information.
Conversely, because of the growing pervasiveness of all sorts of spyware, starting from end-user to enterprise systems, it is vital for every users to be aware of what spyware is, how it hacks and what to do to wade it off.
According to Amrit Williams, research director at Gartner:
We are seeing an increasingly hostile environment fuelled by financially motivated and targeted cyber attacks. By 2008 we expect that 40 per cent of organisations will be targeted by financially motivated cybercrime.
