Popularly know for its anti-spyware program called Spy Sweeper, Webroot Software announced instantaneous availability of its $40 Child Safe parental control software by targeting to help parents control what their children can make access to on the internet. The Child Safe joins a catalog of existing programs such as Net Nanny, CYBERsitter and ContentProtect in the parental-control arena. With the launch of Child Safe, parents are allowed to manage when their kids surf the Web, what types of sites are being visited by them, what applications are being opened by them, and for how long.

Webroot also sends emails to parents open reports of the sites, which have been visited by them. Besides making use of conventional blacklists for clogging sites, Child Safe’s dynamic Web analysis is capable enough to wedge all or part of an unidentified site. Child Safe is touted by the Webroot that it operates down the network layer of the OS and does not slow down Web surfing as much as parental controls programs that hook into the higher-level application layer might. Webroot is selling this application for $39.95 for a one-year subscription for use on up to three computers.
