Yahoo! has collaborated with Symantec to give the deliverance of an Internet security software suite to offer to its users. The Norton Internet Security suite is included with Symantec’s Norton AntiVirus and Norton Personal Firewall products, which can be tried out by Yahoo! users free for 30 days, after which they can make a purchase a 12-month subscription. Yahoo! and Symantec have patterned for years. For instance, Yahoo! makes use of Symantec security technology in Yahoo! Mail and the companies provide a co-branded browser toolbar.
With the latest contract, Yahoo! is competing to a likewise suite that rivals AOL is currently testing called Total Care, which is comprised with technology from McAfee, a Symantec competitor. The contract is also expected to increase distribution for Symantec, a well-timed boost after Microsoft introduced its OneCare PC security suite in June. OneCare, included with anti-virus, backup, firewall, anti-spyware and PC tuning features, costs $49.95 for an annual subscription covering up to three Windows XP PCs.
