One of the country’s top Internet search websites, Yahoo! China has been the second defendant, following Zhongsou.com, in a legal war waged by the Beijing-based Anti-Hooligan Software Federation opposing ‘hooligan’software applications. Yahoo! China, in the Haidian District People’s Court on Monday, was accused of compelling the users to deploy the software, which is hard to be quarantined, primarily Yahoo! Assistant.

Yahoo! Assistant, being a browser ‘helper’ for Internet Explorer, ‘pops’ up on user’s PC but for his/her informed consent and provide information on unwanted things. Usually, hooligan software is included with the malicious stuff such as adverts, spyware trackware and pernicious software like porno content or information. Such malicious stuff pop up non-stop and may possibly commit thefts of personal information.
